Holy Week Reflections | Easter Sunday

 Prompt: Resurrection

A bit different today, here’s a short video of an artwork I produced last week. As some of you know I used to be an artist but I  gave it up when I started training for ministry. I’ve felt a sense of being called back to it again and this is the first piece I’ve painted in years. It’s not really anything like the stuff I used to do and in many ways it’s artistically more than a bit pants, so ordinarily I’d have never let anyone see it.

However this was different. I prayed and I painted what I felt God was showing me. And in the end it seems like maybe it’s a good day to share it.

As a bit of an explanation:

On the first heart I wrote negative words people say about themselves, like:

unworthy, unloved, useless…

that seemed to be an indication of our hearts, in darkness and brokenness. The initial red paint poured on the canvas indicating the pain that life causes us.

Then the cross, Jesus’ sacrificial death over all our pain, covering it, in his blood.

The VICTORY of the cross bringing new light, colour, brightness, the power of God’s love spreading from the cross.

I stuck on a new heart (Ezekiel 36:26:  I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.)

The new heart shows the things God says about us:

precious, worthy, loved, blessed…

and the light of those truths and the power of the cross shining out from our new hearts.

Life isn’t perfect hence the red splatters at the end but it is also filled with light – white and gold splatters…

Resurrection, redemption, victory…

Happy Easter

This was absolutely beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing your gift. I’m so glad that you listened to God and started to paint again. Beautiful :)
