Can someone help me out on this? Does funding for ministry training vary in different dioceses? Someone told me this week that the diocese takes a large chunk of your partners income to cover your tuition cost. Is that right? Apparently at his college there are a few house husbands (wives in training) as they can’t afford to work… slightly freaked us out…. I was under the impression that we would get money if I studied not lose it! Can someone point me in the direction of a good source on this? I will be contacting my DDO but need a heads up first really… Also does it vary if you are studting part-time, rather than full-time? All help gratefully received!

April 13, 2011 at 4:48 pmI can only tell you about my situation. I trained part time whilst working in a senior management job. Others qualified for a book grant that I didn't, but I could claim travelling expenses and had no fees charged.

April 13, 2011 at 5:17 pmI think you will find the tuition fee is always paid by the Church of England. However what always has happened is that they will deduct whatever your spouse earns from the maintenance grant (which the Diocese pays). For you this is likely to mean that you won't get any maintenance. Best thing is to ask the DDO straight out – you won't lose any points for doing so.

April 13, 2011 at 6:11 pmYes – I second what Alan and Charlie say – depending on whether you want to study full or part time. When my husband was considering ministry (before me) I was told that anything I earned would go to the diocese to cover maintenance.. but there again you do get housed and fed at college.
